DIY Glass cube aquarium

Okay this project wont be started until next weekend but I am going to attempt my first ever aquarium build. I plan on making it a planted tank and after everything is established I'll probably add a betta. Here are the details. I am going to be making the aquarium a 10" cube. Roughly thats 4 gallons. I am getting the glass from menards, cutting it myself, and then if i can find it thats aquarium safe i will use black silicone. The internal dimensions are 10"Lx10"Wx10 3/16"H. The piece of glass for the bottom is 10"x10". The left and right sides are 10"x 10 3/8" (3/16 + 3/16 = 3/8"). The front/back pieces are 10 3/8" x 10 3/8". Overall the price will be $20! I will post an add on craigslist and see if people would be willing to buy the tank for $35 and hopefully be able to profit a little on this to feed my aquarium addiction

I will have a little leftover glass. one 10x10 square and a 30"x4" strip. do you all think I should juss leave the top open, add a 2" lip, or make a lid?

the aq silicone they sell at petco is wonderfully effective, and dries such a dark blue that it's practically black. you'll really need a full hood for a betta, they're powerful jumpers, especially plakats and females (no long fins to slow them down!)

plexiglass makes a good hood and not heavy like glass
