Sudden ilness after a year, please help.

Sudden symptoms in order of appearance, all developing in twelve hours:

Swollen belly (very large)
Lethargy and hiding
Darkened (black) eyes (not normal)
Finrot-esque blackened fin edges (about an eighth of an inch)
Split dividing tail in half and small holes in fins

All of this in a cycled ten gallon split tank housing two males. Only one is ill. Water is changed 50% twice a week and Prime is the conditioner.

Any ideas? I'm treating with aquarium salt right now.

The other male is now hiding and exhibiting fin rot symptoms, as well as a minor swollen belly.

Both males are usually very active and outgoing. If anyone has any suggestions on how to treat this or ideas as to what it might be, I'd be grateful.

I'm not sure what it is, but I'd start with a water change for sure. It's possible the water was contaminated somehow. The swelling could be constipation, but again, I'm really not sure, but since both of them are exhibiting symptoms now, I would lean towards something wrong with the water and/or the first one caught something that is now spreading to the other.
It's always a good idea to have a hospital tank in case one exhibits symptoms, you can remove him to the hospital tank while possibly not contaminating the other.

Thanks. After this I'll never again be without a hospital tank.

Update: First male is getting worse. Out of hiding but now laying pathetically on the substrate, fins clamped to his body. I fear he won't make it. Second male is out of hiding and again greeting me at the top of the tank. He seems better, though symptoms still showing.

Same with mine! I thought it was an external parasite at first. Now he is bloated, laying on his side and is unusually dark and has stress stripes. I now think he has internal parasites looking at his poo... He has gotten worse in the past two days.
Have you seen their poo?

No, I haven't seen any poo since this started. I will watch for it, though.
