Talking Male or female?

Hi, everyone! My girlfriend and I wanna find out if her little Betta fish is a he or a she. Here is a photo of our tiny friend :3 Sorry if it's not clear enough; it was the best we could take :/

Kind of hard to tell from that angle, but my guess, based on what i see of the tail fin, is male. See if you can get a profile shot.. That would really help us make a better assessment..

That looks more like a guppy than a betta... The better picture will help, though.

Agreed on the male guppy assessment. Is the tank heated?

Heated? Filtered? Do you use water conditioner? Do you know about a cycle and water changes? What do you feed him?

It's not mine, it's my girlfriend's. My Betta fish lives in the same kind of bowl for the moment(i got it one week ago), but I'm saving some money for a large aquarium with filter and heater. I didn't know that water conditioning is that important, but it's ok if my cutie fish needs that. I got the fact that I shouldn't replace the water all at once often, instead I should replace 20-30% per day. About the amonia cycle, I know what it is but I'd like to know more about it. Should I fill the new aquarium with water and put fish food there in order to attract bacteria and move my fish in the big tank a couple of weeks after that? I feed him larvas bought from the pet shop and I think I should buy those red grains from the pet shop, too, for a balanced diet.
