White cottony like stuff on a tank decoration?

Like what? It wasn't on anything else in the tank that I could see.. But that one decoration was totally covered in it. It wasn't even on the substrate or the plant that it was touching.. I took it out and scrubbed it and rinsed in hot water. It didn't seem extremely slimy and was hard to see after I took it out of the water besides the parts where it was webbed in between the green part on the top.. I took a picture first. I'll upload it in a minute or two.

Yes, believe it's just slime mold, possibly some protein given off by the fish mixed in there- it won't harm anything in there, just unpleasant to the eyes. I have to wash all of the caves in my tanks frequently to remove the slime.

Mold eats things.. think of the mold on food.. will eat and grow. This is just eating something or other in the water - I haven't done much research on it, last time I looked into it was a little over a year ago. But never found a way to stop it other than washing it and sometimes when tanks mature it will become less and less.

I am wondering if you might need to do more water changes for you tank?

I did a 50% like two days before it showed up. It's a new tank and was only on that one decoration. There is ammonia and nitrates in my tap water too.

get a fish decor only tooth brush, and be gentle!

Ew, yeah one of my decorations in my unfiltered tank got that. It was so gross I just took it out.

It cleaned off easily. I put it back into the tank and have no more problems for now. It has a filter but isn't cycled yet and it sounds like this is mostly a problem in new tanks.
