Getting Cories. Need help on how to look after them!

Hi.
I am getting some cories to share my 2ft by 1 ft tank. It holds nearly 15 gallons. I am also planning to get some schooling fish (6 probably) for the middle of my tank and snail. (one which is small and doesn't provide much waste.)
The water temperate is hovering at about 26 degrees celius. Although I'll lower it to 25 if need be.
It has a filter, and i will cycle soon. I don't know the chemistry of water but will find out soon.
So could you please tell me first off, which types I would be best off getting? I want them to live happily and healthily. Could you please include pictures of possible. I don't know what types my local pet shops stock (and a doubt they know either) so could you include lots of types?
Then could you tell me how to care for them or link me to sites with excellent information.
Thank you and I really appreciate any responses.
Also I live in Australia, if that's useful in any way.
(P.S if this thread is better suited to betta fish compatibility can a moderater please switch it to there. I thought it be better here though, because people who know lots about cories would probably come here)

Thanks for the link!! I read the entire thing.
I'm going to check out my local pet shops tomorrow, see what types they have got.
Although I still have no idea what to get, the idea seems more realistic now and I have a basic idea of how to look after them!
By the way are Cory cats considered hardy?

Cories are not considered hardy. they are very sensitive to toxins and need an established and cycled tank. Nevertheless, these are some of my favorite fish and i thi.k a smaller species would do well in uour tank. check out the fish profiles on tropicalfishkeeping.com. its actually the parent forum to bettafish and you're already a member! same login and everything, and tons of access to awesome info!
