thats a shame to get back on the wolves' case when they finally return to the area. just a few prides can do alot to return some ecological balance. heck they might even be able to take some out of the ares to a area where they're needed. too many predatory species are reduced just because society in general cant live together with them. its all society's just because we evncroach on their territory. some balance is needed with fauna territory.

The wolves here are very populated and I heard they were sending Alberta Wolves like down to the states to repopulate. As far as the beef hormone thing, The meat industry is full of hormones, They may not be harmful but they are still used. We had cows and I was in beef 4h for 6 years, You are correct that it makes them heavier but there are still a ton of supplements and other hormones used throughout. Here, a yearling beef steer will be implanted with two or three hormones that last up to 60days thus why they need so many. They are also fed a range of different feeds and that is the reason mad cow broke out because they were fed other cattle matter. (Its not like a cow bone was sticking out in their feed)

Population control is a key topic here too, If the deer overpopulate, all the predators will and this causes a threat to livestock and families and small towns. We have twin moose calves running around the streets. Fishing wildlife do an excellent job keeping hunting under control.

Poaching is horrible! The worst is tresspassers. We were hunting and these tresspassers came on private property and shot right past us. It was scary, We were the only ones that had permission too. Thats how accidents happen.

Our neighbors own a smaller feedlot and I worked with them for 4-h so thats how I know the different hormones and the range of feed mixes. I didn't know much about the dairy cattle as we only have beef cattle in our area. Fun Fact, a yearling steer will weigh around 1,400 lbs by the time its ready for the market.

I've never hunted but if I did I'd probably only shoot fowl. I'd feel too bad killing anything with four legs, especially predator animals. I basically hate anyone who kills bears or wild cats for trophy. Like the people who pay thousands of dollars to go kill a Polar bear. Like, are you kidding me? Are you THAT addicted to killing things that you'll travel that far with a bunch of eskimos and kill one of the most beautiful endangered animals their are in the world? /rant

I don't mind humane culling/hunting if it is done for the purpose of wiping out feral populations or balancing up numbers in areas where natural predators have been removed. Here we have so many feral horses, rabbits, foxes, camels, cats, dogs etc. causing havoc in some of our most sensitive ecosystems. I am a huge cat and horse lover but I have no issue with feral populations of them being completely wiped out.

I have gone shooting before (I don't shoot I just tagged along to watch) as my dad used to shoot rabbits and foxes on my grandparents' farms. However, I do not like the hunts where the animals are fed to attract them in and then shot (I saw this on a television show where it was in an African game park) or the animals are let out of cages and then shot.

There is no sportmanship and no purpose in that kind of 'hunting'. There just seems to be no skill or respect in shooting at an animal that is just let loose into your sight.

I also do not like people who take shots at animals and they are not clean kills. Furthermore, people seem to forget that if you don't hit anything your bullet is still going to end up somewhere. Having been a lurker on a few American horse forums, all I can say is that hunting season sounds absolutely crazy over there. People getting shot at in their yards, trespassers hunting illegally on properties, livestock such as cattle and horses getting shot etc. I would be too freaked out to leave my house if that happened here and I backed onto bush.

I hunt. Poppa brought down a 9 pointer with a small drop tine. I didn't get anything though.

I also hunt for food. Deer only though.

It is less cruel than farming. Like Cows are fed corn which is not healthy for them.

Honestly I don't see why anyone would be against hunting though... I mean I can only think of good things that come out of it.
