it's an el nino fern. we've got some in Caligula's tank, they're beautiful and provide him with wonderful sleepy leaves.

As for filters, there are some that are adjustable. And you can always add some sponge into the cartridge area to help muffle the flow. Some betta enjoy it, my CT's have, and my VT too. But betta with more tail (long VT's, HM's, Deltas) have a harder time with current because it's the equivalent of having sails full of wind on a boat.

But each betta is different =)

What a great looking tank set up! He's a lucky fish.

When you put in the driftwood, did you prepare it in any way? Wash it or anything? I am super scared of putting stuff in my tank as I fear it will somehow leech a chemical and hurt my fish. Any advice?

I just rinsed it in hot water and made sure my hands were clean and washed with anti-bacterial soap and dried before placing it.
