Question not use my carbon cartridge?

I have a hanging filter that uses carbon cartridges. Could I replace it with aquarium sponge and bio media instead?

Thank you!

Yeah, you don't need carbon. However, it does not hurt and it can be helpful. I would at least have some around in case of emergencies. I also always run a carbon filter for a few weeks on a new tank, just to be safe.
