Tanks compatible with filter but not used

I bought a 5 gallon tank. with a light hud on top. the thing is, the hud has a cut out for a filter. but I dont have one.. and dont think ill get one (unless its in gravel) but non the less theres a big hole in the tank cover.

so 1. will my betta be able to jump be able to jump out. (I mean water level wont be right to the top but how high can they jump?)

and 2. depending on the answer to number 1. what/how should I cover it.

also 3. I know its not required to have a filter and im sure in gravel filters are much more preferred. should I get an ingravel one or use a light cartridge filter? or is my life just going to be easier with no filter?

My tank has a cut out too. I don't have the filter in it... you should be okay. If you are paranoid you can over the tan with seram wrap and poke holes in it. I have thought about doing it and when Im gone for more than a day I usually do

If you want a filter I suggest a sponge filter!
