Odd dilemma: Bloated but cannot fast?

I've noticed Eros getting a bit-- fat.

I used to put a day of fasting each week but Eros tailbites when he isn't fed.

He used to be fed 5-6 pellets

Then when he became an adult, 3 pellets in the morning and 1 at night, or 2 in the morning and 2 at night

Now he's fed only 3 pellets a day... because his belly looks a little bloated.

My first thought was overfeeding but can I overfeed 2-3 pellets a day? I make him flare for 5-10 min a bit everyday, it helps him with his tail issue and pooping.

I want to fast him, but he's a vicious tail biter when he's hungry so-- I dunno what do you think is getting him fat? Maybe he is eating his fins? Or is it overfeeding?

Can you show us a picture after you feed him? I find some bettas have tiny tummies. My doubletail Mickey cannot have more than 3 pellets. My female doubletail geno has a HUGE tummy and could eat 5-8 pellets (not that I would let her) Mickey cannot even have freeze dried

Agree, pics are important.

My betta bites more when he's not fed too. I play relaxing music and it helps, but I'm starting to accept his beautiful rose tail may never come back. He's also currently in an unfiltered 5g so I'm hoping once I get him in the cycled 10g it may change things.. either he'll be less bored or the water quality will be better.

Have you tried removing the filter? My DT dislikes the flow and if something else doesn't go his way - expect no fins!
