want to add sand.

i have had eco- complete in my 10 gallon betta tank for a month roughly. i want to add some black sand over the top. how can i go about doing this without disrupting my balance? could i just add a little at a time? am i going to screw things up by killing bacteria on the eco-complete?

I added a one inch layer of sand over top of eco-complete in my 45 gallon a few weeks ago and it didn't have any negative effect on the tank. I was planning to do it in four or five additions over a couple of weeks, but once I got started, I just did the whole thing at once. If you thread stalk my past posts, you'll find something about my process in case you were wondering how to manage the sand addition with minimal fuss.

I have seen a couple of different ways to add sand to an already established tank over at plantedtank.net too :)

the other option is to push the eco complete back or remove a bit,and make the front 1/3 of the tank sand. or a sand bed thru the middle lined with petrified wood to hold the eco back.a kind of terrace. i want something for corys later.

I am thinking of removing all my Sand and adding some Layerite stuff I bought.
