Filter, heater for 1.5 GL?

Hi beautiful people,
I'm new! So I was wondering if you wise betta keepers could help me find the right heater for my Tetra 1.5 Gallon LED Desktop Aquarium?

It needs to be a reliable yet inexpensive one that I can buy at PetSmart, Walmart, or order online.

Also, his tank has a Whisper Filter for 1-3 GL tank sizes, but I think the current is too strong... when he swims by it, it makes his little fins go sideways. Is there anything I can do to decrease the current? Or should I just try to return this tank and get one without a filter?

Or buy a different type of filter? (the filter is incorporated into the tank, so I can't just replace the filter).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

The hydor theo adjustable heater is good. Get the 25 watt one. You can order it from Amazon.com

They are both about the same price as the one I have now, but the one I have now is only 1.5 gl.

I prefer plain rectangle tanks. Besides bettas do better in tanks that are longer than taller.

I too have to give the nod to Hydor Theo heaters, been using a 25W one for a year now. Steady at 80-81. Very happy boy.

I would too, but I have no room for a longer rectangle tank in my college dorm.

I also have to say that the Hydor 25W is a great heater. It always keeps my 1 gallon at a steady 80F.

And for the filter, you can baffle it by using half of a plastic cup to ease the flow. Something like what this girl did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_8l3MUYEa8

yah definitely get your fishy a bigger tank i recommend AT LEAST a 2.5gal. i have a 2.5 now and i'm getting my male betta upgraded to a 3 or 5gal tank for christmas

Sponge filters are perfect for bettas, you'll need to get a adjustable air pump and tubing as well. I like these sponge filters a lot, and the small ones are under $5: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bio-Sponge-F...item4abb4074c6.
