found this thing floating in our canopy...what is it??

so this evening when i was feeding our sorority tank, i saw a really thick root in the floating canopy plants that didn't look like anything we've put in there. i have no idea where it came from, or what it is. i planted it down on the bottom of another tank because it looks like a rooted plant, and it's too small to get enough light on the bottom of the sorority. can anyone help me identify it?

If I am correct it looks like Anubis. It's a very hard to kill plant that's easy to grow in most conditions. It will multiply as it matures and can be separated to replant the new ones. Way to go!

I agree, it looks like a little plantlet of anubias. The thick "root" is actually a rhizome and should remain exposed to the water. How you have it now looks ok. If you have trouble with it staying in place you can tie it to rocks or driftwood.
