What is up with my HalfMoon's fins?????

Im not sure what's up here. I dont see any fin rot, I guess he may be nipping it. I have 2 others in the same tank and their fins are perfect so I know the water is ok.

Any Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the tank they share.

He's chewed his fins. My HM does it by himself, so I just let him do it He won't stop no matter what anyways.

Your's could be doing it because of being in a divided tank. Though I do love your tank!!

He was in his own tank for a month and started doing it before I put him in his current tank.

So its just a personality kind of thing? Some do it and some dont? Sorta like nail biting?

There are hundreds of reasons why he could be doing it.

Being a halfmoon his fins are longer and probably heavier. He could be chewing them back to make swimming easier.

Boredom and stress are the most common. Difference in tank size, temperature, water changes, or even being in an isolated room, or a heavy traffic area can all contribute to tail biting. Sometimes you can figure it out, and stop it, but usually you have to bear with it.

Thanks, that does make sense. I just got him about a month ago from Thailand so this is a pretty big change for him.

He's making a bubble nest as im typing this.

Well, what you could do is grab some IAL (indian almond leaves) which may definitely help. What is their temperature at currently? I've also had Thailand bettas, and they are a tad more picky than my locals Or, so I find!!

Looks like my delta tails fins....he started biting after I divided his 10 gallon with a female on the other side....but after she died and I removed the divider he stopped and they are starting to grow out. My VT will only bite his tail if he's in anything bigger than a 3 gallon....very weird
