General question: I know it depends much on the girls' attitude, but when you keep a sorority in a 55g planted community tank, what is the minimum number of females to add?

I would rather stay with a LOW number to give me room to add a couple more if I see some in the future that I really like.
Just thinking that the size of tank plus non-betta tank mates would make for enough room/cover/distraction to start out with a lower number?
Currently I have four in QT.

Thanks a lot!

I think 5-6 is the recommended minimum but I believe the Sorority thread also says the more, the merrier.

Gotcha! Thanks!

So I guess even for a large tank like this with all the distractions and hideouts they need more than 4. I was hoping that the (plain) tetras and the two orange platies would add enough distraction.

That's fine, I'll go to the LFS tomorrow and see if they have some nice looking ones that would fit (I like having a variety of color :D )

EDIT: (I just hope this does not turn out like the disaster I had with angelfish. I was on an AF forum because mine hated each other and was told to add more - they still hated each other. Now I have only one male by himself in this tank and he is happy as can be. I'd hate to have a bunch of female bettas to rehome, because I would want to make sure they go to GOOD homes. No bowls etc).
