Update on my tank! :)

So, I've had some growth, but the most noticeable is my banana lily! The thing has just taken off! I hope to get some more stems and some java moss or subwassertang over break or something. First pic is older, second is the newest ^^

Your floating plants are doing well also.

Keep an eye on the banana plant, most people report it not doing well after a period of time (long period, about a year) suggesting it may not be truly aquatic, at least long term.

It doesn't have to be.

Plants are usually $3-$6 each, stem plants usually come in a bunch (3-6 stems or so).

Fertilizer is ~$10 for a bottle that will likely last you years, unless you have a medium to large tank (larger than 20 gallons).

The last thing is light, which you may or may not have to replace. This depends on your fixture and what's in it (describe their length in inches, and post any numbers you see printed on the bulb). If all you do is replace the bulb, this is usually no more than $10-$15 maximum.

A table lamp timer (the kind you use when on vacation to make it look like someone is home) is really handy to ensure your lights are on for a set time each day. They are under $10.

Otherwise that's it.

Hm... never heard that, mine keeps sprouting new leaves like crazy, I'm up to about 1 new leaf every 2-3 weeks, maybe less (amount of time) Most places I've seen, like on planted tank forums, generally say that it's a great plant and will flower under the right conditions. I think the key is getting the plant to reach the surface and removing leaves when it gets too much for the base... but I'm not positive.

I love the banana lilly! I've wanted one for awhile but every one I see that's available (only ever see them at PetCo) always look a little unhealthy, which is unfortunate. I would love to have one in my aquarium, they are so pretty. :)

I love my lily, <3 it's such a rewarding plant, and so interesting to watch grow ^^
