Question Thrift store heater?

Hello guys.
while I was browsing my local thrift store, I came across a 10 gallon tank with fake plants, decor, a filter, and a heater. of course I bought it.
having come home, I tested the filter (it works) and washed the decorations. but my real question is about the heater: should I use it? it seems okay, but I haven't tested it yet. on the inside, there's this little thing that has "Penn plax" printed on it. should I use this heater? do you think it's corrupt? I'm not sure how old it is.

Thank you, ~Saphira

Penn Plax is one of the older aquarium companies.

Most of their products are somewhat outdated, but their newer filters look interesting.

I'm not sure if PP still in business.

Can you take & post some pictures of the heater?
What kind of filter did it come with?

Model number for both items would be helpful.

Test it out, by putting it in water FIRST & if the light turns on & heats the water, give it a good scrubbing before you place it in the tank.

How much did you end up paying for the 10G? I saw one on Friday same size for $20, fluorescent light hood, generic filter, etc...

This is used equipment? I wouldn't use the heater and I'd bleach everything non porous and not use anything that was. You don't know what the last fish who used it might have had.

Wow, that's actually nicer PP heater than I expected. It's most likely a 50W heater.

The whisper filter you have can snap off on the bottom. Check the impeller for strands of hair & debris.

Hope the suction cups & the plastic hanging clip for the Whisper filter were included.

Even used these items have a value of.......
Filter $7
Heater $10
Hood $10

I think I might re-calk the tank just in case.

If the fish had ich it would be dead by now, and anything else would probably be washed off, as whenever I get any second hand aquarium supplies I always clean it well if it's worth using.
