Ok folks many of us who breed use plants, what are your views on them in the breeding tank?
How many do not use anything, and do any of you use plastic?
I am going to take a hint from the Killie breeders and try spawning mops.

I think plants are great! I have used them with all my attempts at spawning.
Mostly because they help with water quality, but also because they carry micro organisms that fry can eat as first foods in case something happens with whatever type of culture you have going.

Since I have switch to using a more natural method to spawn-In mature 5-10gal soil based heavy planted-full to the top with water, on 12h/day PP, no filter, temp at 80F...It has increased my success rate, easier to spawn with little to no fin damage, healthier, stronger and faster growing fry with strong immune response. Sturdy nest with few egg that fall from the nest-you can thump the nest and the eggs won't fall. The systems create lots of microorganisms for free range fry food and I can go for several days without needing to add live foods, however, I try not to...lol....The plants function as a natural divider to prevent premature egg drops.....I will never go back to the standard method.....
