Breathing Problems?

Hello!

So today I was watching my betta fish when I noticed that it kept coming up for air every 30 seconds or so. After it takes a breath, it comes back down and spits out a little bubble.

Is he bored? Is his water lacking of oxygen? Any info would help very much

Does he blow a bubble everytime? Is he building a bubblenest maybe?

If he is continuously spitting bubbles that rest on the surface of the water he is building a bubble nest. Its a natural breeding behavior.

Another problem, he seems to be frozen. I looked closely and his fins are swimming around still, but other than that he looks as if he is sleeping. Is he actually sleeping or is something wrong with him?

Well I think he is fine, because whenever I come upstairs to feed him he seems excited and ready for food. I think maybe he is just bored.

Housing

What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Freeze Dried Bloodworms
How often do you feed your betta fish? 4-5 Bloodworms 2 times a day

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? Once a week
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 90%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Conditioner

blood worms are like candy or potato chips. They should only be given as a treat no more than once a week and then only one or two max. Also anything freeze dried needs to be throughly soaked in a cup with a little dechlorinated water to soften or they tend to cause constipation. The rest of the time bettas need a good quality pellet like Omega One or New Life Spectrum Betta. They also need one fast day a week.

Water changes need to increase for .5 gallon it needs a daily change.

In something that small you won't see a lot of activity so he may be fine, or ammonia build up may be hurting his breathing if you see a lot of rapid gill movement? I would just increase water changes, use Prime as a conditioner because it will help with the ammonia in ways most won't and find some pellets. For Omega One size you feed 3-4 split up twice a day and NLS feed 5-8 split up.
