Bloodworms??

Ive been hearing mixed info on this so id like to hear it straight. Some say feed these as a one to twice a week treat, but some say its one the healthiest staples as long as you feed a pea. Please help

You will still hear it as mixed information here. Some things work for some people, and not others. However, if you want personal opinion and experiences, I've only used live food rarely as treats. Some bettas are stubborn and you will have to mold them back into eating pellets after feeding live food. In the long term, I don't think much people would like to deal with this as it can get frustrating that their betta is not eating the pellets. Above all, I say live food is great and keeps the bettas very active (caution of diseases), but you probably want to include a variety of live food in their diet. On the other hand, pellets is convenient and quite safe, but bettas are not super crazy for them like they are for live food. Oh, lastly, I hear that peas do more harm than good, but no confirmation of that. You can try to feed peas, but that is if the betta even eats it. Hope this helps.

i feed mine live food most of the time. I only feed them pellets if i woke up late for school and didnt want to get through the hassel of defrost the food. But then again, i own 7 bettas so it takes a while regardless

would frozen be better then freeze dried to help prevent disease?

I think they both the same... but caution freeze dried need to be soaked in water first because they expand

I've heard that bloodworms are ok as a staple if they are frozen or live, but that the freeze dried worms have lost most of the nutrients, so those are only good as a once in a while treat (unless of course your bettas don't really like them - oddly enough, my female doesn't - she'll eat them, but she doesn't get nearly as excited over them as my male)

Blood worms are the potato chip and candy of the fish world. Personally, as I've heard most commonly I would only treat one as a treat no more than once a week.

If you feed live watch out for internal parasite infections. Seems like you'll probably see it at least once in your betta's lifetime if you feed a lot of live food. Frozen has a much lower rate of infection and freeze dried the last, however freeze dried foods can also cause constipation so they should be soaked and softened throughly before feeding.
