White spot near gills

I got my first betta from a family member keeping him in the tiny container from the store. I moved him into better home a week ago and noticed a white spot near his gills on both sides. I hope it's not an infection. Can you please have a look at the picture?

How often do you feed your betta fish? twice a day

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? twice a week
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 50%, then 100%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Petco water conditioner

Water Parameters- not tested

Symptoms and Treatment:
I first noticed it 5 days ago. I can't say about the behavior because it's my first betta and I havent had it long.
