Christmas tank!

Yay! Here is my 29 litre / 7.8gallon tank that I got for Christmas. So stoked about it and I love how it looks already! Using a filter from "All Pond Solutions", rocks are from The Green Machine (TGM Blue Stone). I used a dirt substrate capped with pettex black sand which is actually very grey. Planted it out with Hemianthus Callitrichoides and green Cryptocoryne Wendtii. Hopefully I can get some sort of Valllisneria for the background.

Will be moving Saburo into here as soon as it is ready. Should take just a couple of weeks. Will be getting him some tankmates too, probably some sort of tetra. Thinking glowlight or neon? Hmmm... :D

Oh wow, that is going to look really nice as the plants grow in. Great job on the scape!

Hemianthus Callitrichoides around the front, which I hope will carpet.

And Green Cryptocoryne Wendtii Dotted around the middle and back. :)

I'll also be getting some Nymphiodes sp. "Taiwan" or some Vallisneria to give it a little height, and as a resting spot for Saburo. :)

Thanks! I love it too. I can't wait to get my lucky boy in here :D

nice :) do you have CO2 and why light are you running? usually if you lack in either of those, the HC will start flying upwards :O

I don't have CO2 :( Using an 11w arc pod which is pretty bright, enough for the tank at least. the bulbs temperature is 6500k. :D

Hmmm I'll have to break the bad news to you :< But unless some miracle happens the HC will not carpet... in fact it may struggle to stay alive. however the crypt will do well. if you really want to give HC a chance to grow out... you will have to drain most of the water and bring the light closer to the substrate. a better ( and more expensive ) carpet for a low light tank would probably be flattened marimo moss balls...HM (not giant baby tears) will also make a good carpet under highlight without CO2, but you will also risk an algae take over :O.

likewise dwarf hair grass "belem" is also a good candidate. it is spreading over my 2.5 nicely.
mind you I have about 30ws of cfl lighting over a half filled 2.5 gallon tank which leads to better light penetration and access to atmospheric CO2.

edit: sorry more plants come to mind...
you can also try Hydrocotly Sp. Japan, however you will have to do a dry start to have it carpet faster..otherwise you may end up having to manually shove the plant back down into the substrate. but that one is a nice easy plant that is low light tolerant
