Sponge filters are great. I use one for my 3.5 gallon, very nice and the sponge has good surface area for the BB. Mine is by Jaden but it's a little strong, that's why I had to use a T valve. -.-'

The smallest AC filter is the AC20 so I think that's a bit too strong for a 3G.

I have a Marina Slim s10 filter and it is so gentle that it doesn't need a baffle. I have it on a 5 gallon but I think it would work on a 3 gallon too.

I have never used that one but it looks like it would work. The TOM and the Cascade ones also look good because they are adjustable.

Maybe too late to be asking...but why do you want a filter at all?

For a tank that small, it seems that it might actually be overkill. I had to take the filter off my 3 - even with minimal flow,it was pretty strong. Now I just have to make myself be good with water changes.

Because I live in a very old apartment and there is a Lot of dust. Even after a full change dust collects at the top even when the hood is on.

I know you mentioned you've never shopped on Amazon before. However, I LOVE this filter. I got it for my little guys' tank a month ago. It's soooo quiet and perfectly small. I just added a little bag of carbon and put part of the sponge over the output to slow the current. Doki Doki loves it. He's a little guy too. I'll post a picture of it when I get back to the tank if youd like. :)
