If one isn't opposed to used things, Craigslist.com is great. I got two brand new hoods for $20 each. Most things can be cleaned pretty well although you'd want new filter media perhaps. It's something to look into to reduce your costs.

That's why you meet to look at the tank and pay AFTER You see the tank.

Yes, absolutely. And always ALWAYS agree to meet in a very public place during the day. Take at least two people with you and have your phone ready. Don't meet behind a building or at someone's house unless you have to.

Exactly. My mom and I went somewhere once and my phone was ready, turns out they were really nice! ^.^ but you should always be careful.

Have to? If they asked me to do that, I'd say forget about it.

Has everyone had luck with used tanks? I'm afraid that the used tanks that I have may have had sick fish in them with TB or the mystery disease or something. Apparently neither can be killed with bleach.

I'd suppose if they couldn't get it out of the house but I'm with you, wouldn't do it.

My tank is technically used but that was 10-20 years ago xD

A friend of mine has a 10g she got used and her fish seem okay so far :3
