No live plants. I did use some "live gravel" stuff. It was the same colors as the rest of the gravel but came in a liquid filled package. The test kit was the API master test kit that gets recomended here alot with the droppers and vials.

Live gravel is bacteria-infused. It will kick start your cycle like bacteria in a bottle would, or like using an established piece of filter media.

Numbers look good. Perform your weekly water change (25-50%) and keep watching the numbers closely for a while to make sure there's no mini crash.

Oh, I'm glad to finally run into someone who has tried live gravel. I was so curious about it as I'm thinking of getting a 5 gallon to put on my desk (gosh, so addicted) but I seem to have run out of things I can really seed from. :3

Yeah, I'd never seen it before until I stopped into a Pet Supplies Plus and looked at their (awful) fish section. So I was super curious about it but kinda paid it no mind as their fish section was just horrible. Bowls, bowls as far as the eye could see.

100% in the 5 gallon is for a tank without a filter. Do your normal weekly 25 to 50% weekly and continue testing daily to see if more is needed with any spikes. You're doing fine :)

I was suggested 50 percent for my 10 gallon filtered planted.

Honestly, those numbers are probably excessive unless a fish is ill or your water parameters keep getting messed up.

100% in a 5 gal that's not filtered, that sounds right. 50% weekly in a planted, cycled 10? Not needed. Test your water - it's probably just fine. I do a weekly 25% in a planted, filtered 5 gallon with a 50% monthly and the numbers stay down.

If I was dealing with a sick fish, or perhaps multiple fish, larger water changes would make more sense.
