New tank questions?

Hey guys! I got a new 5 gal and I'm moving my betta into it soon. He is currently in a little 1.5 gal diddy and I have anxiety over taking the leap and moving him. I bought this bacteria stuff to make the cycling quicker, and I was planning on putting his old water from the bowl in there too? Is that a good idea? I just need some instructions on what to do with the bacteria stuff and how to get it ready soon. Thanks!

Personaly I am not a fan of chemicals and use them only as a last resort. ie medications.
The way I cycle any new tank is to fill it half full with water from an existing system that is stable, fill the rest with new water. The end rest is like doing a water change in an existing system. If you plan on using a filter, soak the filter floss in the established tank for 24 hours.
Voila.....cycled tank!

Soaking a sponge or using a few gallons from an established tank isn't going to produce a fully cycled new tank, but it could help. However, if you took fully established media from one source to another (like an extra sponge that's been running a month) that would help a great deal.. still wouldn't be INSTANT cycle. Just help it.
