I just automatically do it when I do a weekly water change but there isn't much gunk in it.

Is it a pain to rinse it out?

Oh an also, where in the intake tube do you put it? Like do you put it in the bottom where the vents are?

The cut bottle method is the surest and safest way IMO.
I dont think slowing down the intake a bit will burn our the motor...As long as you don't stop it completely....Which no one would do anyway because then the filter isn't working....

Many people baffle their filters without a problem, but then again, most people baffle the outflow rather than the intake..
This is a stupid question, but where to you get aquarium safe sponges? Lol.

Do you have a Petco or Petsmart near you? They carry them there :)

I know most people baffle the outflow, but just because most people do it doesn't mean it's better ;)

The closest one to me is about an hour away so I shop online usually. I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for...
And I don't think it's better. I just haven't seen anyone here burn out their filters by baffling the intake. I just figured that that's not an impressive number because most people baffle the outflow rather than the intake (so I don't see many people who do baffle the intake).

No its not a pain, once I drain the water down I remove the lower, vented section which is where I have the sponge. Swish it in the used tank water & tap it against the side of the bucket of I see gunk coming out of it I'll remove it from the tube, dip it in the water & then squeeze it so more gunk comes out. Because its wet I have to use some to help stuff it back in usually. Putting the sponge inside also protects the fins from getting sucked into the tube.
