Drat, the exp. date is 2000. X-[ Well, my dad's had his tank for like 15 years so it makes sense... Looks like I'm stuck for the time being. :( I'm so worried.

Is there anything that I can find at pretty much any pet store that will help at least until I can find something better?

Don't stress. If he's still acting normal you're okay.

Furan 2 is an API med. You can get it at Petsmart. The Kanaplex and Maracyn Plus may be harder to find.

Thanks ever so much- you've been very helpful and patient. I'll take your advice and update if anything changes.

Well I do have an update. This morning the fuzzy tuft on his fine is gone...? But the spot is still there, and looks mostly the same. It had appeared so fast yesterday I'd almost expected him to look like a dust bunny when I woke up this morning...

Now, is this a really good sign or should I still be worried?

edit: Whoops missed a page x) it could have been his slime coat fighting off an infection? Did the fuzz spot look like it was torn or bitten? What plants or ornaments do you have in there?

Well, all his plants are the silk ones, and he has one sort of bridge thing... but I don't think the fin was actually torn. The spot looks smaller and less white today and the tuft of fuzz on his dorsal fin is completely gone. And I could swear his fins and scales have turned a much brighter blue... ?????
I didn't treat him at all! I don't get it... but I'm certainly not complaining! Still definitely keeping a close eye on him though just in case it comes back...

And on a side note I got him Omega One and Hikari pellets today. So far he has eaten neither, but... we'll see.

Maybe his immune system kicked in then.. just watch him carefully.. Might do an extra 50% water change.

The spot did look like the very tip top start of columnaris (that I've seen) and the fuzz made me think it was taking off but it could have been slime coat. But slime coat fuzz is like.. this: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...ral1r.jpg/sr=1

NOT cotton patches.

Yup, I have a water change scheduled for 1st thing tomorrow morning. And he will certainly be under close observation! But so far, it's real nice to see him looking probably the healthiest he has been since I brought him home.

It's quite scary how quickly their condition can change!
