Alpha finally flared!

I didn't want to ever make him flare because I heard its stressful for them thinking some other male is in his territory, but I always wanted to see what he would look like if he did. So yesterday, I was just sitting there looking at him just swimming around doing nothing, and thought maybe he would like something to play with! so I got a small bead (not too small so he would choke on it) and dropped it in the tank. He swam up to it and pecked at it until it floated down. And I guess that startled him because he straightened his fins and flared his gills! I got my phone and shot some picks! You can see the bead in the pictures

I couldn't get THAT good of pictures because
1. My phone camera sucks
2. He kept swimming all over the place!
3. His dorsal fin (i think that's what its called) didn't exactly flare ALL the way in the pics I got

But theyre still okay. next time he flares, ill get better pictures!

You have an absolutely gorgeous fish! I love how light his fins look in that first picture, and the way they flow. He is very handsome.

Oh that is so much fun! I've held a mirror up to my boy once or twice and absolutely love his reaction! In the times at night when the tank is somewhat like a mirror for about a half hour, when he goes off to the sides he flares up at himself in the tank! He's also flared at a cucumber for my Otos aha. Love these little guys!

wooow, what a pretty shade of blue! :o he has quite a lot of fins to flare!

I like the bottom picture on the left the best because it looks like he's got all the colors of the rainbow in a wonderful blend =)

You have a very beautiful fish. They can be so funny sometimes! One of my betta used to flare at every orange object. He just couldn't suffer that color haha, nor my nails when were red.

Yeah! Alpha doesn't like beads anymore! I put one in again to see if i would get the same reaction, and he flared up again after it sank down! Bettas are funny.
