I would get the new one if you really want him that bad. BUT if you cant afford to buy a heater for a 1gallon, you'll need to keep wherever you keep them at around 78 minimum.
I would suggest going and getting a 7.5-10watt heater from the store and use that. Marina betta heaters cost like $10 so its not too bad.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'll try floating him first- it may be possible for me to attach the 1g to the wall of the 10g, but if that doesn't work I'll get a heater tomorrow I know my LFS has one, I'm just not sure how much. It really doesn't matter, just so long as my new guy is as happy as I can make him until further notice ^.^ For the 1g, is it 100% water changes every 1-2 days?

This is the new Betta! The colours are already changing from the store and I am working on floating it in the 10g! I am yet to name him, but he is a Half-Moon and absolutely GORGEOUS!

Right now he's getting used to his surroundings, taking it easy, looking around. He doesn't seem stressed, just cautious. He's not very active but I have the feeling that after he gets used to the place he'll be great ^.^ Pigg is also seeming better after I added the Aquarium Salt. Of course, he's not completely cured and ready to do backflips, but he seems to be more active than a couple hours ago.

Yup, every time I go near the tank he checks me out and swims back and forth across the front of the little tank. I actually had to put a cloth over one side od the tank because he was freaking out trying to chase the Otos in the 10g!

I had a really bad one in September when I got them, I couldn't get rid of it- there was the brown algae EVERYWHERE and green patches... After a week with them the tank was and still is spotless!
