Is a 50 watt heater too strong for a 3 gallon tank?
I need to know this before I install the heater into my fishtank. I bought an aqueon 50w adjustable heater to help prevent my betta from getting fin rot again, and I asked 2 different people if the size of the heater would be safe. both said yes, but looking at other threads I'm not so sure. Help me, please? I don't want to fry my poor boy!
i'd say a 25w would be better but wait till other people post too
Alright, thank you. I really couldn't find a 25w, but if I run the 50w at a lower temperature and monitor it closely, would it still be safe? I just want the water at a warm temperature without it boiling the fish alive.
You should be fine. Just make sure you do a fishless test run and keep a thermometer in at all times. You'll most definitely need to keep it at a lower temp than you actually want in it. run it for a few days and see how it goes before adding any fish to it and you'll be good to go! :)
