Plastic Canvas (crafting mesh) Hammocks

I think I saw a couple of them on here, so I decided to make my own for Mushu and Jade. Because I have 3-4 sheets that are kicking around her doing nothing since my lids are all made up.

I like how they float on their own, but Mushu likes to build expansive bubblenests for his lady love in the next tank over, so I hung his a little bit above the water level to give him somewhere to build if he really wanted to.

Who all has these, and what are the pros and cons to using them?

I have them in each of my tanks, and Seiya has used his as a bubblenesting area =) Demi really likes her,s but as she has a gibbled swim bladder, it really helps her out.

I think the only con is that it doesnt look natural (but it's cheap, so what?) and if you don't make the edges as smooth as possible fins can get caught on them.

But I've been careful and my fish love them ^^

I cut into the actual mesh, making sure there were no tags hanging off, because that was my first concern. And so far, the squishy cow has been in and out of hers. I think it amuses her. lol

I know some people use the canvas to grow moss and stuff, maybe that would be an idea to make them look more "natural"?

Prlly. Kalec is the only one that doesnt always use his, and Phy didn't get a chance to get used to his before he died. But Seiya sleeps in his regularily and when he builds a nest he's always working in there, tending to it. he'd be a great daddy I think (though I never intend to breed my fish). There's a pic of him and the nest in his hammock in my albums, he's so cute about it! Even flares at me when I get too close when he has it built ^^

Mushu takes up half of his tank surface when he does his... he's nothing if not dedicated! I haven't seen him use his once yet... -glares-

Try to catch him at night. I was so glad Seiya chose his hammock to build the bulk of his nest, though nothing terribly extensive. Maybe fills the corner and the hammock and thickens it.

I've thought about trying to grow moss on them , I think that'd be awsm for them =D

I might try it and see how it works out... Mike's pretty skilled at tying down mosses lol

I have a decent sized one in Narcissus' tank with holes on the side for extra things to swim through.

I plan to cover it with java moss or something if I can find a healthy batch of it.

I'm not sure about making one for Darling yet since s/he's still a baby temporarily in a 1g tank with a large silk plant crammed inside until s/he gets a little bigger for an upgrade.

Isn't java moss that massively stringy stuff? I hate it with a passion, and a few tendrils of it are wedged halfway up my filter intake. ugh... lol
