Hey can somebody tell me the best Liquid Test Kit that I can buy to test the water parameters in the tank? I am told that I need to test pH, Ammonia and nitrate levels.
Also are the tests done by Pet stores like Petsmart reliable?
please don't rely on the fish shop for your water testing,
sorry to say that most if not all shops will say "yeah the waters fine"
when really it is not.
API make a water test kit that i would recommend to you for use.
I use API. Good buy for the money. There are more on the market that have tests for Gh and KH, but you really don't need those unless you really get into keeping some wild caught species, hard to maintain species, or sometimes plants. API is the 2nd link.
Another API user here. Pretty easy to do once you get the hang of it.
LOL, unless you knock over the test tubes like I did yesterday. Spilled my nitrite test before I could get the lid on, and spilled the water in two others. I have such a hard time getting the water to the correct level. I was soooo frustrated.
A quick and easy way to accurately fill a test tube is with a syringe. If you don't have access to a regular syringe (10 or 20 ml works well) you can find ones in the children's medications aisle at a drug store.
