tank and food recommendations?

Hello,

I have owned a betta in the past but she didn't last very long - ended up getting sick and I didn't know what I was doing so I didn't have the right medications on hand :( (i thought they were easy to take care of......after learning more about them on this website i realize they're a bit of work) but I recently got a new betta..I don't know what to name her yet but I saw her at petsmart (she's a baby - i know there's a thread called petco baby or something..but mine was from petsmart!) anyways...

right now i have her in a 1 gallon tank and I wanted to upgrade to a 2 gallon or a 5 gallon tank with a filter (instead of getting a christmas present i decided to ask for a tank and stuff for her..) - i was wondering which tanks are recommended? I want to keep the budget low...

also, she is very picky - she won't eat the pellets i bought for her (but i'm sure it's because they probably taste gross - i bought top fin which is petsmart's brand...i think i'm going to go return it) - i know a lot of people here feed their betta NLS but i heard they sink rapidly...are there any recommendations for pellets that float?

i tried the garlic method for these pellets i have and she didn't want them that way either..

anyhow! any recommendations would be helpful.

I use NLS baby fish formula. Mine seem to eat it without a problem!! Otherwise I crush adult food.

If you go with a filter, I recommend finding a sponge filter. That will be gentler for the fry... Plus even with adult bettas it works nicely (sponge filter, pump, air hose, and adjustable valve).

What is most important though, is a heater. The water should be at 78-80 degrees, especially for a poor little betta who is probably stunted, burned by ammonia, and cold (not because of you, but because of being sold young).

If she is new, she may not eat yet. Try again tomorrow. If you can, find live foods. Most cannot resist live foods.

2-5 gallons is up to you... Whatever works for you, and as long as you can find an adjustable heater to fit in it, you're good.

I would reccomend easy to care for live plants.
