Bubble Nest?

Hi ppl
i had my betta Rambo for aprox. a year now and i have to say he is doing fine- he swims all over, eats well, and poos well.
i have him in a 1gallon tank with and O2 supply pump (but i dont usally run it cuz i keep reading bettas like still, quiet enviorment) & and i feed rambo frozen bloodworms, frozen brineshrimp, & mashed peas- each on diffent days
BUT ive been reading a lot about "bubble nests" lately-wich im not familiar with:
-what are they
-what do they mean
-rambo doesnt have one, does that mean hes not healthy/happy

-Bubble nests are built by male bettas that are used to hold a betta's eggs after spawning. It does not mean they need a "partner." It shows they are healthy.
-Shows they are happy and heatlhy, comfortable, etc.

Don't be worried if he doesn't have one if he seems normal. Do you have a heater in the tank?

I would suggest upgrading your tank size.

no i dont have a heater yet (i planning on getting a microheater around 7W very soon) and is the air pump neccesary or can i exchange it with the heater??

air pumps are not really needed for a betta, cause they are labrynth fish - they have a special organ which allows them to "breathe" off a gulp of oxygen from the surface. so he is probably fine without one.

A heater is more important than a air pump so if you only want one I would go with the heater. I agree that you should get a bigger tank maybe a 2.5 - 5 gallon?

well i always heard that small spaces for bettas make them feel safe and secure and warm temps (75-80 degrees) are only for breed bettas but if you say so ill pick up a 5gallon i saw at pet cetera.
and im having trouble finding the micro heater. have anyone acctually seen them in stores or do i have to order it off the net ? I really dont want to go to wal-mart!!

Alight, ill ditch the air pump and buy the tank & heater- then maybe i can even get a bubble nest out of Rambo

The thing about small spaces isn't true. Larger spaces are good because it gives them places to swim and they are able to stretch their fins lol. Make sure you get some plants or places for your betta to hide for the 5 gallon

o ya the kit comes with the whole shi-bang- heater, rock, substrate, etc.
and i already have two fony plants and a mini easter island head for Rambo that ill probly use.
