Hidden Dragon

A week ago I was disapponted to find very small stock of betta int he city where I buy mine - I ended up picking a very nice (though moody) female plakat (we think) and this little guy, who was tiny, had a bent spine, didn't have much strength at all; Slyph. My little steel-blue crowntail. I had him on epsom for a week and he gradually ate better and grew in confidence, so I moved him to his 3g on my desk.

Today I was watching him, and lo and behold...he's a dragonscale. One of my absolute favs =D

Slyph when we got him...

And today =D

Thanks ^^ I'm glad I saved him from dying in that horrible cup. And I mean like a double shot glass, maybe smaller =O

That's not dragonscale.. the coloration (black head) is common in that pattern (especially black & blue), similar to a dragonscale.. but he's not dragonscale.

Pretty boy though :)

What's teh difference between him and an actual dragonscale then? Cause his scales do seem thicker than the rest, though he is quite small so it's hard to tell.

Dragonscales are thicker, usually a bit metallic looking..

First two are dragon, the second is a royal blue betta which is what color you have. With dragons you can usually see the scale edging by the fins and noticeable scales at the top of the head (unless it's a full mask dragon).
(Notice the blue on black of the last guy which is like yours) Can google "royal blue betta" and will see that they tend to have that combination. Except your looks more steel blue, but same thing applies..

Hmmm...the last guy looks more like my CT who has similar coloring, not quite what Slyph looks like. And I thought for sure he was a steel blue, not royal...

Or maybe I just want him to be a dragonscale so bad, lol. Thanks for the replies.

Yes, your boy is more of a steel blue, but can have the same qualities as the royals when it comes to patterns.. (had to go back to look after my first post, realized he was steel rather than royal heh)

It's okay, your guy is still very pretty! I have a dragonscale that was given to me free from a breeder, otherwise I don't bother with them, to me, they aren't all that pretty in life - but in pictures they are gorgeous lol

I'm excited for him to grow more. He's still smaller than my pinky, and I have bony fingers ^^;
