Should I be worried?

A few month ago Guppy (that is the name of my Betta) had taken up fin biting. It took me a long time to figure out what was causing it and even what it was. I caught him red finned one day, in the act. The problem has been repaired and his tail is growing back. no more trouble... I think.

I am noticing that the parts that are growing back are coming in dark and iridescent. It does not seem to bother him, but I want to get your opinion if you think this is something I should be worried about.

I change the water every 3rd day, 50% as I have a lot of plants, heater and filter. The lights do stay on all day but they are not very bright, and dark lights was the reason this started in the first place - what can I say, he likes to be in the limelight. LOL

I should probably mention that he has always had a thin iridescent stripe on the tip of his tail, but it was never this strong. It was more like a hairline on the upper/outer edge. Not what it is now.

Wow he's beautiful, I absolutely LOVE his coloring. I have a paler orange boy with a blue iridescence on his edges & I just think it adds to his beauty. I wouldn't worry, I'd enjoy the fact he's healing & you figured out the cause.

The regrowth looks good.. normally fins that grow back tend not to be exactly as they were before being removed. His fins look clean..

What size tank do you have? As 50% every 3 days is quite a lot, even for a 1g.. his fins look good, would look up the recommendations by Oldfishlady (top of this section) for water changes for your set up.. especially since you have live plants. Water can be too sterile for them.. his fins don't look like they need the extra clean water at this time.

It is a 2.5 gallon and I have worked with ofl to setup this schedule. The problem is I have no luck setting up a stable cycle and my water is very tricky as my city uses chloramine in my tap water so the ammonia builds up faster than usual. Even though i use conditioner, tests always show a presence of ammonia. And after the tail biting I have become paranoid about him getting an infection. Though sometimes I do slack and four days between water changes.
