Oh yhea, if you do go the Hex route and it's an older version with the 15W incandescent light bulb, do yourself a favor and swap it for a 10W fluorescent bulb. I replaced mine with a daylight/blue 10k bulb that I got from the LFS and the live plants in my tank have really exploded.
Thanks for the sideline info Virto. My favorite tank is the same thing but I didn't know about upgrading the light for my plants! Learn something new everyday.

Everybody has a preference for various reasons but, for Betta, a long, shallow tank is generally preferred over a taller shorter one.

Thanks everyone, and I agree Hallyx, it seems that a long tank with more horizontal swimming space would be optimal. That's why I've been thinking about that Petco 6.6 gallon "bookshelf" tank. I started a thread about it here:
