Deep Fin Blowout

Came home from the doctor just a few minuets ago he was just fine before I left. I come back and he has split his dorsal fin all the way down to his back. I'm already using 2 tsp of stress coat to treat him. He has never blown his fin out that deep. Do you think I should add AQ Salt with the Stress Coat or just leave it be.

How often do you feed your betta fish? 2 pellets twice a day (Sunday and Wednesday is bloodworm day so 2 pellets in the morning and 2 freeze dried blood worms before bed)

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? Once weekly
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 50% with gravel syphon, and a few swishes of the filter cartridge in old tank water
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Stress Coat or Bettasafe

Hey there,

If you have a photo of him that would be great..... as I haven't heard of a betta clamping his fins due to a tear. However if the tear is the only problem I am sure he will be fine, do you know what he tore his fin on? If so I would reccommend removing it in case of further injury. Just keep his water nice and clean to prevent a subsequent bacterial infection. Also the stress coat is a good idea, I probably wouldn't worry about the salt but if you choose to add it it won't do any harm. Goodluck

I don't think it's anything in the tank. I did the pantyhose test on all his toys. but he has a new tank and he can see his reflection better in the glass than he could when he was in an acrylic tank, and he has always tried to fight himself. And I have Just added a filter baffle (new filter too) and he was poking and swimming against the current earlier.
Now after dinner he looks like he unclamped himself.
