Important question!!!!!!

I have searched everywhere trying to find the answer to one question :

Can I use table salt instead of aquariaum salt??????
I don't really have the time to go to my local pet store to get aquariaum salt and I'm always afraid I might need it for my betta, but I won't have it.
Can I even use sea salt?????

I HAVE NOT tried these things on my betta yet.

NO!

I'm not sure about sea salt.

You CAN use epsom salts, PLAIN, not scented.

PS, no need to use salt at all unless he's sick and usually not even then. Clean freash warm water is all you need :)

Epsom salt is for internal while aquarium salt is for external.

Epson salts are carried at many stores, even grocery ones. Heck. the dollar store even carries it. I always keep some on hand for myself, my dogs, and now for fish.

Table salt can contain anti-caking agents which are harmful to aquariums.

Ok!!! I will definitely have to check that out at the store!!! I read online, and some people were saying yes, and others no, so I was a bit confused.

You will want to get AQ salt for external diseases and unscented Epsom salt in case of Swim Bladder disease if you have a CVS pharmacy in your area you can get Epsom salt from there. If you're busy you can always order from amazon.com. They have so many things you can use for your fish could just go ahead and order a basic first aid kit to have on hand. Plus of course they sell Prime, fish food, silk plants and the list goes on.

It is the case that Epsom is for internal, AQ is for external, but in a pinch, the Epsom salt can do double duty for both internal and external. If you have to choose one or the other, go with the Epsom. :)

The AQ salt will work better for external, but the Epsom can help (in place of AQ) and can tide you over until you can get some AQ. :)
