Sounds like you won't have any BB from the previously used items, so keep close watch on water parameters when you put the fish in.

I have two smaller pots I can place inside and when I can I will get some more pots and such. Actually I have a sunken ship I was going to place in my five gallon but now I might just add it in there along with the pots and eventually I want to use real plants instead of silk/fake ones.

For the five gallon I am going to be placing my male Betta and was also looking forward to making a little community. What would be good community for a five gallon hex with a male?

Here is the newest set up I just did today. If your wondering what the open spot is on the far right side corner it is where I planted a few aquarium seeds I purchased at walmart. Hopefully in the near future I will be able to have this tank full of entirely real plants but for now I'm reduced to this. haha. Would this be a good enough set up for the sorority and dwarf cories?

You should really look into enlarging the holes on the bottom of the flower pots so nobody gets stuck trying to go through them out of curiosity or trying to escape bullying

Not much really. A 5g is too small for a community tank unless you have alot of ground cover like moss and want to try shrimp but they may become snacks for the betta.

How can I do this without breaking this entire pot?

and Tikibirds would it not be a good idea to do neon tetras or something similar to that? The tank is more on the wider side than tall. I'll have to post a picture once I get it started on cyling.
