I think he's cellophane? He has pinkish/reddish undertones in his fins, scales are "skin" colored, he is completely see-through.

What kind of lighting do you have in your tank and what size is it? What substrate? Maybe we can help with the plant growth.


Side note.. can I ask what camera you are using? I'm looking to buy another and those are great photos.

He looks like a cello to me too.
He could possibly be pineapple if you said his body is kind of yellow, but I cant tell from the pics. but hes a cutie regaurdless and looks really happy!
I'm terrified of birds but your's looks really cute and like s/he's entertaining.
Your plants look fine, how long have they been planted? It takes a while to grow in.

I've kind of put my plants through some torture. I replanted a few days ago, I know I damaged some roots, I'm praying they stay alive. I just separated all my DHG into tiny clumps, and my crypt parva had a few offshoots I pulled off. Man I love that little plant, the only one (knock on wood) I haven't had trouble with so far.

Planted plants are DHG and crypt parva. I have java moss (well probably a moss mix) stuck in driftwood, and a bunch of plants floating, mostly water wisteria (or sprite, i can never tell!) and some little bits of purple cabomba I'm trying to revive. I also have a dwarf lily floating...because it was pretty much dead and I thought floating it may help, and one unidentified floater.

Plants are in Fluval Shrimp substrate, dosing ferts flourish, excel, and iron. Fluval 13 watt, 6400k light, 10 hour photoperiod, no algae problems on the sides of tank, but something seems to be covering my plants, brown and algae like, maybe diatoms?

Oh and I have an Ebi, so 8 gallons. I have a Nikon D60, its an older DSLR camera. If you are really intent on good photos, pick up an older DSLR and really learn your settings. :)

That explains it :) Haven't gone digital yet. I have a film slr and an A650 IS backup.

8 gallons requires at least 16w so your 13 w is very low light - probably right around 2w per gallon once you take into account the gravel on the bottom. Might think about adding another bulb.

I do have another lamp, waiting for a new bulb to come in as it burned out. ;) I forgot to mention that haha.
It's another 13 watt fluval light, so 26 watts for an 8 gal.

I've never had much luck with film, but it has really made me appreciate the finesse involved with it. You may be able to get similar results with a point and shoot if it has a manual setting, but you could probably find good deals on older DSLRs.
