Question Getting the Betta out of the Tank

So, I've read that people cup their Bettas when they take them out of the tank.

I was just wondering, would I be able to buy a cup (or mug) from the dollar store and use that?

Most people use the cup that they bought their betta with, but you can really use anything as long as it is safe/doesn't leach toxins into the water. Obviously some people have giants and they don't fit in those little cups anymore, so they use tupperware, a bowl, etc. Just keep in mind that it should have a lid, or something you can put over it while you have your back turned and are cleaning the tank or whatever. Don't want the fish jumping out! Just make sure they can also breathe...

Anything that humans eat or drink out of is generally safe to keep a fish in, especially if its for only a short period of time.

Great! I have plenty of mugs, but they've all come in contact with soaps. So I thought one of those clear glasses that they sell would be useful.

I'd use the cups that they live in at the store, but they don't sell you that where I live. They just chuck the Betta in a bag.

IME, make sure the cup can fit comfortable inside the tank as you might have to "chase down" the fish. Last thing you want is to have the fins trapped between the cup and AQ wall while the betta is trying to escape, and got pinched.

So far I've used a 1 litre clear pot that you get take away soup in or soup from the supermarket, just wash it thoroughly and rinse it with some dechlorinated water :)

I use a new, round takeaway container with a lid we've put holes in. I just put it in the tank sideways, and wait for the fish to swim into it (sometimes takes a while, so patience is a virtue!) then turn the container the right way up and put the lid on. Clean the tank, then put the container into the tank to acclimate, done! ^.^

Petco and Petsmart will usually give you those cups for free if you ask.. in case you ever need to get one - good to have them as they have a lid and you can float it in the tank to acclimate them to the new temp after a water change to avoid shock.
