Can this tank be salvaged?

My neighbor's fish had what we think was body slime disease, he had it for 6 months and it would get better with salt baths them worse again until he died, he was about 16 months old when he died. We wanted to know if a tank can be cleaned after that or if it was best to just get a new tank, it's a small 2 gallon so no big deal if it has to be tossed. Just curious, thanks!

i would soak the whole thing in vinegar for a few days, then soak it in water for 24 hours, then let it air dry for another day to be sure.

Many bacteria that fish get (besides TB) can't live outside of the water. But, just to be safe you can soak the tank in a 1-9 ratio of water and bleach. 1 part bleach, 9 parts water.

The tank will be just fine once properly sanitized. I would use a bleach solution to clean the entire thing...there is actually a good post on sanitizing with bleach in this section of the forum ;)
