heater question

I want to know if I could use a 25 watt hydor theo heater in a 10 gallon glass tank? My room stays in the high 70s and low 80s most of the time.

Hey there,

I take it you live somewhere in America being that you use Gallons to measure water (I am in Australia and use Litres). Anyhow the heaters here are made so that 1 watt heats 1 litre of water meaning that a 25 watt heaters heats 25 litres of water. If the heaters are the same in America then I am afraid a 25 watt heater would not be any where near sufficient to heat a 10 gallon (approx 38 litre tank). You would need a stronger heater I think 55 watt is the next size up here so that is what you would need.

You can do a 50 watt. The problem with too small a heater is that if they stay on too long they can become stuck and not go off, then you boil your fish. you like your room hot! lol
