Aquaclear sponge too rough?

I know a lot of people use Aquaclear sponge to baffle the filter outflow and have it dip into the water, but isn't that sponge kind of rough? I'm pretty sure it would not pass the pantyhose test...

Hmm, yeah your right, I'm not sure that it would pass the panty hose test either.

But this isn't something fish would be swimming into. It's there to slow the flow so they the fish doesnt get pushed around by the current, so its not actually anywhere the fish would be. Right?? I've never baffled a filter so I'm not 100% on this, its just my thinking.

Yeah I agree with you. The sponge isn't the for the fish to swim through, like a plant or cave, but it is still in the water a little bit, and I don't think the fish knows any better... But I found some softer sponges online...I just wish the softer sponges were easier to find at the pey store. Thanks for your response :)

No problem!
I wish they were easier to find too! But, pet stores dont really think about bettas, so they dont think about getting soft sponges for filters.
What did you end up going with?

I went with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...w_bottom_links

It's kind of hard to tell, but it looks soft enough to me...If not I can use it for other things...
