Red face how many neon tetras can i put in with my betta?

As i've said in my other threads, i'm getting my male VT a 10gal tank soon. (the marineland biowheel 10gal) i already have 3 brand new neons(i know thats a small amount of tetras in one school but this is why i'm asking...)

how many neon tetras can i put in with my male VT in the 10gal? i've heard people have had 7 before... would just 5 be fine?

thank you thank you :3

5 is ok. 6 would be better. 7 you'd be fully stocked ,you'd really need more wcs or add plants. i recommend plants anyway. real or silk to help break up line of sight. sometimes shoaling fish can stress a betta out.

They usually like to run schools of five or six but i think that would be a lot of fish for a ten

Remember Tetras are sensitive to salt so you will need to find alternate treatment methods in case of disease. Neon Tetras also have a lower bio load. 6 should be fine with a Betta in a 10g but that will be your limit.

Five will be fine. Your best bet is to quarantine them for a month before you put them in with your Betta. Neons stress very easily and tend to get ick because of this. You will need to set about 3 hours aside to acclimate them properly too. I would then introduce them with the tank divided for about a week. Neons are very sentive fish and I recommend Cardinal Tetras over the Neons. Cardinal's look similar and tend to be a bit hardier.
