Cover up

I have a boy that I keep in a large glass vase (with a heater) that I change the water twice a week. I keep him in our master bathroom next to an outlet for the heater plug. It's very bright in this bathroom. Nonetheless, he's seems quite happy and thriving in this environment since I removed him from his 2-1/2 gallon heated tank where he seemed stressed.

Anyways, I've been covering his vase with a black piece of cloth (keeping an opening for air) at night, so when I turn on the light, he doesn't get started while asleep. Does anyone else do this?

not quite but i am careful when i wake them up.i don't think it would be very much fun to not have eyelids.i turn the lights to the surrounding rooms first. then i tip toe in and have morning coffee while i them wake up. i turn on a small table lamp in the far corner of the room for a bit. wait to see if they are awake. turn on the lights and it's time for breakfast. i enjoy watching them under their blue leds in the morning.

I do this for one of my bettas. He gets really stressed if a light comes on on during his preferred sleep time.
