Question for dog owners.

Lab genetics are so they have no aggression. I think the worst you can get in an adult is fear, aversion and health issues. Puppies almost always grow up good.

I have known people who got dogs from shelters that were absolutely neurotic. One was a collie but after a few weeks in a loving home she got better. The other one was a Sheltie who hid all the time, wouldn't eat unless you left the room and wouldn't walk on a leash or would only walk for a few minutes then sit and refuse to walk. I had to carry her home whenever I walked her.

Aww, most shelter dogs aren't messed up from abuse. They're just unlucky.

Blame the owners not the dogs. They didn't care enough to train or socialize them properly.

I have a lot to think about. We've always had mixed breed dogs and our last one was saved from having to go to the pound. A neighbor of ours a long time ago kept Max tied up in the yard. He would howl and cry and when the guy told my dad he was taking Max to the pound my dad offered to take him. Max was the best, most loving and protective dog we ever had. He was a poodle, cocker spaniel mix, I believe but we were told he was part Pomeranian but he looked more like a Cocker spaniel than a Pomeranian.

Don't a lot of animal shelters have some sort of thing you do to match you up with dogs that will fit your life style better?

Are you planning on getting him/her in Texas? The south seems way over crowded with dogs (anyone ever watched Last Chance Highway on animal planet?)

No, i usually watch all the animal cops and some of the dog rescue shows
