Agreed with MattsBetts. Unless there is something seriously wrong never medicate your fish... No need to!! Some things commonly medicated, could have been dealt with with clean and warm water.

ok thanks for the tips guys im glad i havent used it yet!

will his fins heal on their own yet?
they look a bit freyed at the ends but as i said he has always been this way

They will definitely heal on their own :) I have had my fair share of blown fins, bitten fins, torn fins, etc and they almost always heal back. The older the fish gets the less likely it does grow back, but that's an age thing. If he has always been that way, don't worry about it.

Keeping the water clean is most important, since if you let the water fester with ammonia and waste... He can get Septicemia, which is an infection that hits the open wounds and is caused by high ammonia and waste.

oh ok well thats good to know also, i was worried that they wouldnt heal and i didnt want them to get infected or anything.
